Abstract:

Despite the fact that the construction industry and advanced technology add many advantages to our lives, the construction industry has become an area where sustainable policies are on the agenda due to the fact that it has become a threat to the ecosystem for the near future, the energy consumed by the buildings around the world, the water resource and the world greenhouse gas emission rate. In this context, 'sustainable' buildings that do not harm the ecosystem and reduce energy consumption while making our lives more comfortable are becoming the necessity of the modern age. It is important that these buildings, which will be built with an ecological building design approach, comply with the principles of sustainable architecture in the design-construction-use-demolition processes, that the buildings are designed according to sustainable criteria and that appropriate strategies and practices are made according to these criteria. This study aims to reveal the strategies and methods adopted for the sustainable design criteria in ecological buildings, and to evaluate the ecological buildings in terms of sustainable design by investigating the design practices related to these methods. Within the scope of the study, the relationship between the understanding of sustainability and architectural design, the principles and criteria of sustainable architectural design are explained with literature reviews. In the next part, ecological building examples in Turkey were researched and three buildings samples selected in terms of meeting the sustainable design criteria were analyzed within the framework of a common table in terms of the determined sustainable building design criteria. In the last part of the study, these three buildings were compared and evaluated in terms of sustainable building design and a general solution proposal for sustainable building design for Turkey was presented.
