Abstract:

Both insurance companies operating in the non-life branch and companies operating in the life/pension branch have an important place in the Turkish economy. For this reason, it is important to measure sector performances periodically. The aim of this study is to analyze the performance of both non-life and life/pension companies for the period 2010-2019 using the TOPSIS method. According to the results of the study, in which the criteria weights are both considered equal and calculated according to the CRITIC method, 16 criteria are used, and both financial and technical ratios are taken into account, 2012 was the most unsuccessful year in the non-life branch, while 2019 was the best year in the sector. Companies operating in the nonlife branch experienced a decline in 2012 and 2015, and showed an increasing performance after 2015. While 2012 was the worst year for companies operating in the life/pension branch, 2019 was the best year. However, life/pension companies did not experience the 2015 decline in the non-life branch. As a result, although there is a rise in both branches, the performance patterns are different.
