Obesity and overweight have in the last decade become a global problem. Obesity is defined by the World Health Organization as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to an individual’s health. The evidence for the adverse effects of obesity on women's health is so important issue nowadays. Being overweight or obese increases the relative risk of diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, stroke, infarction, osteoarthritis, endometrial, breast and colon cancer in women. Maternal obesity leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes (spontaneous abortion, gestational diabetes and hypertension), and also decreased initiation and duration of breastfeeding. Intrapartum complications (induction and caesarean section) were higher in obese women. Obesity adversely affects the use of contraceptive methods and fertility. The article summarized effects of obesity on women’s health according to literature.
