Melanom Dışı Deri Kanserlerinin 11 Yıllık Retrospektif Analizi
2021
Dergi:
İzmir Katip Çelebi Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Dergisi
Yazar:

Abstract Objective: Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common malign skin neoplasm. The frequency and features of non-melanoma skin cancers vary from region to region, age and gender. In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively investigate the demographic and lesion-related characteristics of patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of nonmelanoma skin cancers in Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital. Material and Method: Between May 2009 and March 2020, 343 patients, over 20 years aged diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer, were evaluated retrospectively in our hospital. The age and gender of patients, histopathological types, locations and sizes of the lesions were recorded. Results: The mean age of patients included in the study was calculated as 65.62 (±12.87, minimum: 21 maximum: 95). 58.02% of the patients were male, 41.98% were female. 71.14% of the patients had basal cell carcinoma, 23.62% had squamous cell carcinoma and 5.24% had basosquamous cell carcinoma. In 80.48% of the lesions, the location was the head and neck region. The mean diameter of all lesions was 20.17 millimetres, the mean diameter of the lesions in the head and neck region was 21.23 millimetres. In 14 (4.08%) patients recurrence had occurred. Conclusion: Our country has insufficient data on the epidemiology of non-melanoma skin cancers related to the geographic regions. Therefore the results of our study will contribute to the database. Because of the high geriatric population and increased sun exposure in Izmir and the similar regions, non-melanoma skin cancer is an important health problem. In order to reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by non-melanoma skin cancers, it would be beneficial to raise awareness in society about the early diagnosis, treatment and risk factors. Keywords: Skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basosquamous cell carcinoma, epidemiology.

Özet:

Non-melanoma skin cancers are one of the most common malignant skin neoplasms. The frequency and characteristics vary according to age, gender and geographical areas. In this study, Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Education and Research Hospital aimed at a retrospective study of demographic and lesion-related characteristics in patients monitored with the diagnosis of non-melanoma skin cancer. In our hospital, 343 patients over the age of 20 who were diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer between May 2009 and March 2020 were examined retrospective. The age and gender of patients were recorded by the histopathological types of lesions, settlements and sizes. Results: The average age of the patients involved in the study was 65.62 (±12.87, minimum: 21 maximum: 95) 58,02% of the patients were male and 41,98% female. 71.14% of patients had basal cell carcinoma, 23.62% had squamous cell carcinoma and 5.24% had basal cell carcinoma. In 80,48% of the injuries, the settlement was the head and neck area. The average diameter of all injury was 20.17 mm, while the average diameter of injury in the neck area was 21.23 mm. In 14 patients (4,08) there was a repetition. The outcome: Epidemiological data for non-melanoma skin cancers in our country are insufficient according to the geographical areas. Therefore, the results of our work will contribute to the database. In areas where the geriatric population is high and the exposure to the sun is too high, non-melanoma skin cancers are increasingly important health problems. The awareness of the public about early diagnosis, treatment and risk factors will be beneficial in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by non-melanoma skin cancer.
