Abstract:

One of the basic elements that will increase the quality of education is qualified supervision. This study aims to reveal the private music courses' conditions of being audited. The study was designed with a phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group consists of 25 principals of private music courses from 6 regions of Turkey, which operate in affiliation with the Ministry of National Education in 2021-2022 academic year. Descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data collected through the interview form. As a result of the study, it was observed that external audit of the institution was conducted by auditors of the Ministry of National Education and various institutions, the auditors are usually positive and genial but there is no standard in their status and implementation. It was concluded that the auditors are not from the field of music, the inspections are limited to the physical space inspection, the music courses are inspected through the same evaluation criteria as the courses in different branches, and the curricula are not suitable for the current and contemporary curriculum. Furthermore, the internal control of the institution takes place in a spiral structure between the principal, teacher, student and parent, and the stakeholders audit each other directly or indirectly in various ways such as observation, interview, camera, open classes, class participation, certification exams and concerts. In the light of the findings, some suggestions were made, including that more efforts should be made by the authorized institutions to include illegal and under-the-counter courses in the supervision mechanism.
