Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of the study is to determine the isolation precautions and care behaviors of nurses in the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This descriptive type study was conducted between nurses working in any health institution in Turkey and between May and August 2020. The data collection used “Personal Information Form”, “Scale Compliance with Isolation Precautions” and “Caring Behaviors Inventory-24”. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics (ratio, frequency and mean±SD), t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient tests were used. Results: A total of 527 nurses participated in the study. When the study characteristics of the COVID-19 pandemic period were observed, 54.3% were isolated in the process before the outbreak, and 53.9% were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the pandemic process, while 60.9% were partially adequate when treating patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19. It was also determined that 54.5% of nurses were replaced in the pandemic period, 49.9% were in the emergency service and 36.8% were working 40 hours and more. 71.2% of nurses said they had no difficulty reaching protective equipment during the pandemic process. The “Scale Compliance with Isolation Precautions” of the nurses has mean 83.39±4.11. The “Caring Behaviors Inventory-24” of the nurses has mean 5.32 ± 0.49, with the order of sub-size meaan of the scale “assurance” 5.29 ± 0.52, “knowledge-skills” 5.52 ± 0.48, “respect” 5.30 ± 0.56 and “commitment” 5.20 ± 0.61. It was determined that there was no relationship between the “Scale Compliance with Isolation Precautions” and Caring Behaviors Inventory-24”. Conclusions: It was observed that nurses attending the study had high levels of compliance with isolation precautions and caring behaviors scores in the COVID-19 pandemic. It is suggested that isolation precautions and the perception positive care behaviors be maintained after the COVID-19 pandemic.
