Hamîduddîn el-Ferâhî (1863-1930) is one of the late glossators lived in India. Ferâhî has aimed to write an Arabic interpretation of the Quran with the name of “Nizâmu’l-Qur’ân and Te’vîlu’l-Furkân bi’l-Furkân” according to the “Nazm Method” that he developed by himself in which the surah, verses and words have a relationship together, each surah has a main subject and all verses have to be understood within this sense. In the Interpretation study which could not be completed because of the death of the Author, Surah Al-Fil has an exceptional place as Nazm method was applied and different results were obtained apart from the other glossators. According to Ferâhî, the surah does not appeal to the Prophet Mohammed, it appeals to Tribe of Quraysh who has witnessed the Elephant Incident or heard the incident by the first witnesses. The ones who were throwing stones to army of the Abraha were not the birds, they were the people of Makkah led by Quraysh who went to the mountains and defended against the enemy army and Arabs from other Tribes who arrived in Makkah for pilgrimage. The Army of Elephants was not defeated by the stones thrown by the birds; they were defeated by the defense of the people of Makkah and a storm of stone/pebble over the soldiers divinely. Birds were not sent to throw stones, they were sent to clean Makkah and around by eating the remaining animal and human bodies in the army of elephants. The application of Stoning of the Devil in Hajj (ramyu’l-cimâr) is a symbolic representation of this incident (Elephant Incident). In this article Elephant Incident and Surah Al-Fil were comparatively handled with previous interpretations and historical resources by providing information relating to the life, works and Nazm Theory of Ferâhî. Comments of the author that he has suggested in order to understand the Surah Al-Fil correctly, were evaluated by criticizing the followed methods and provided evidences in order to support his claims. Also Surah Al-Fil was translated again under the light of the interpretation of Ferâhî in the article.
