Abstract:

The XVI. In the second half of the century, according to the decisions taken at the Trent Council, the Baroque, which appeared in Italy/Roma, represented the art of the Catholic Reform. The XVII. Despite having a common root between the countries throughout the century, it has shown local characteristics according to the countries it applies due to geographical and historical differences. The Baroque was spread over the territory of Italy along with the Catholic Reform Movement. In Lecce, located in the southern Puglia region of Italy, churches in Baroque style began to be built along with the influence of Catholic rituals. During the historical process, Lecce was under the rule of the Ostrogot, Byzantine, Lombard, Norman and Spanish dynasties, mainly the Roman Empire. It was influenced by different cultures and created a synthesis along with its local characteristics. This is the XVII. It also reflected the churches built during the Baroque era. In Lecce, Baroque art has evolved as a new style as a result of the unification of external factors such as Rome and Spain with local culture. Due to the importance of agricultural activities in the region, plant plants show local characteristics. As a result of his Spanish sovereignty, it has side chapels that remind the style of "Plateresk and Churrigueresque".
