Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are considered the main causes of mortality and morbidity identified in Brazil. The treatment of CVD includes the control of obesity. Objective: To evaluate the effect of the Programa Grupo Self on the reduction of anthropometric measures of cardiovascular risk in women. Materials and Methods: Clinical, interventional, uncontrolled, open and crossed trial, carried out with 10 women enrolled in a weight loss group at Ceuma University, followed for 8 weeks. Body mass index (IMC), arm circumference (CB), waist circumference (CC), hip circumference (CQ), waist-to-height ratio (Rcest) and waist-to-hip ratio (RCQ) were evaluated (initials in portuguese). SPSS 21.0 was used to apply the t-paired test in the comparison between T1 (beginning) and T2 (final) moments. Discussion: It was observed that women who seek weight loss, showed significant results in the group approach. Therefore, a dietary reeducation and inclusion of physical activity practices are essential for weight control. Results: There was a significant reduction for: the IMC (T1 in T2); the CC, from 88.3±12.5 cm at T1 moment to 85.5 ± 13.0 cm at T2. The CB, which initially was 33.2±4.9 cm, changed to 32.3±4.6 cm at T2; CQ recorded 110.3±10.5 cm at the T1 moment and 108.5 ± 10.8 cm at T2. The RCQ showed no difference between the initial and final. Conclusion: therefore Nutritional intervention in group can contribute to treatment for overweight and obesity, composing a strategy to reduce anthropometric markers of cardiovascular risk.
