Abstract:

Managers have the ability to guide and influence the crowds in their position within the community, whether professionally or in their position within the community. The directors with these features are also among the important stakeholders of the film festivals. This study aims to identify the contributions of the directors to the tourism and the region where the film festivals are considered as a supporting product in the tourism perspective. For this purpose, the study used the quality research method and the data was collected through the interview technique. The sample of the study consists of 12 documentary film directors invited to at least 5 film festivals with the easy sample method and welcomed by the festival management. The obtained data has been subjected to content analysis using the MAXQDA 2020 Qualification Analysis Program method. As a result of the study, the responses the directors have given about their potential contribution to the region and tourism in which the film festivals are treated as a supporting product in the tourism context have been gathered under three topics: "economic", "socio-cultural" and "promotion/image". According to the findings obtained, the economic contribution of the film festivals to regional and regional tourism has been found to increase the number of visitors in the region, social cultural contribution to the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage of the region, and, finally, the contribution to the image and promotion has been focused on ensuring the awareness of the region in the national and international field.

As a result of the study, the answers given by the directors were collected under three themes: “economic”, “sociocultural” and “promotion and image”. Firstly it has been determined that the economic contributions of film festivals to the region are to increase the number of visitors in the region. Secondly, it has been realized that the socio-cultural contributions of film festivals to the region are to promote and protect the cultural heritage of the region. And finally, it has been determined that the promotion and image contributions of film festivals to the region are to provide national and international recognition.
