Indonesian political thinking is divided into two types: political Islam and secular politics. Soekarno and Muhammad Natsir were the dominant political references in Indonesia. Soekarno is the secular nationalist, Natsir the Islamist. Both generations inherit ideological disparities. These distinctions separate political Islam from secular nationalism. An academic kind. That is, what is taken from the phenomena becomes the material for scholars to create, invent, and develop new ideas. This study included both primary and secondary data sources. A collection of publications and documents organized as references to add to this research treasury. The data analysis followed the protocols, making this a qualitative study. The primary and secondary data were analyzed qualitatively to construct a theory. As a result of arguments on the national idea during the early stages of independence, both Islamic and secular nationalist ideologies emerged, specifically Islamic and secular nationalists. Soekarno's or Muhammad Yamin's version of Pancasila (Five Basic Principles) was advocated as the national principle by the nationalist circle. The ideological issue has been debated since the presidential decree legalizing the Jakarta Charter, which establishes an ideal and constitutional vision of country and state. As a result, the Jakarta Charter should be implemented constitutionally as part of the 1945 Constitution, as it is the constitutional demand and existence of the majority of Indonesian Muslims.
