Konya’da Selçuklular ile başlayan kütüphane geleneği, Karamanlılar ve Osmanlılar ile devam etmiştir. Osmanlılar zamanında kurulanın en meşhuru ve en önemlisi ise Yusuf Ağa’nın 1794-1796 yılları arasında kendi adıyla yaptırdığı kütüphanedir. Kütüphanenin kendisi ve kitapları kadar günümüze değin gelebilen inşaat masraf defteri de dikkate değerdir. Buradan dönemin yapı tekniği ve malzemeleri ile bu malzemelerin nereden ve nasıl getirildiği, ne kadar usta ve işçinin istihdam edildiği ve bunlara ödenen ücretlerin tespiti yapılabilmektedir. Buna göre, vasıfsız işçilere verilen yevmiye ücretleri 10-33 pâre arasında değişirken, demirci kalfalarına 30 pâre, demirci ustalarına ise 60 pâre verilmiştir.
