Abstract:

As a man of culture and prominent political figures Refik Halid Karay, is one of the most important intellectuals educated in Turkey in the 20th century. In particular, as being an effective political humor writer Refik Halid has also been closely involved with the history and sociology as besides man of letter. Karay has mostly written political, social, economic and cultural developments happened in the first half of the 20th century that is one of the turning points of the Turkish history. The author expressed these events for reader with a strong writing skills and extraordinary interpretive power. Refik Halid is one of the prominent intellectuals commenting skillfully development and changes of the Turkish community in the years between 1908-1965, in his memoirs, articles, and literary works. Another theme that author emphasizes in this works mainly western culture and image of the west. While thinking and interpreting important developments in Turkey and Middle East in his books and newspaper articles, he has questioned meticulously influence and impact of the west on the point of emergence and development of the these events. Thus, he often thought western impact on the eastern culture in this comments about the theme of political history, military history, social history and cultural history. It has been tried to study thoughts of the writer on western culture starting from information provided by the works of Karay in this study.
