Özet:

Abstract In the last decade, Loreto has distinguished itself as a destination with a marked orientation to nature tourism: this situation, together with the advantage of by being considered as Pueblo Mágico, offers the opportunity to detonate a more inclusive tourism development model and sustainable, with a big difference from the traditional, massive and sun and beach model that is applied in Los Cabos, and that has led to an exclusionary and poorly integrated development from the economic, sectoral, social perspective and territorial. The research corresponds to an exploratory study, considering two periods of analysis: the years 2000 and 2015 for which descriptive analytical statistics techniques are used, based on the methodology of sustainable development indicators for tourist destinations of the World Tourism Organization. This article aims, first, to describe tourism development and assess its economic, environmental and social impact and, second, to analyze the feasibility of implementing a development model based on nature tourism, based on an analysis of its potentialities and limitations, considering as an area of study the town Pueblo Mágico of Loreto, Baja California Sur. The results refer that the destination reports better indicators in the areas that value the quality of life, urban and social development, as well as in the economic benefits generated by tourism; however, in the indicators of environmental sustainability and tourism competitiveness there is a relative setback in the benchmarking of 2000 and 2015
