Abstract:

Purpose: This study is designed to determine the validity and reliability of the OAS (Osteoporosis Awareness Measurement) Turkish Form developed to assess the awareness of osteoporosis. Instrument and Method: The research is a methodological type of study planned to assess the validity and reliability of the OAS in the Turkish society. The examples of this study are provided by the Izmir Provincial Health Directorate, which is located within the Izmir or Karşıyaka district, in the first stage health services provided units, (Society Health and Family Health Centers), which are responsible and health workers who agree to participate in the work (n=346). The analysis of data used numbers, percentage, t-test, correlation analysis, Cronbach alpha reliability ratio and factor analysis methods. Results: The Cronbach alpha reliability ratio for the entire scale is 0.94; the Cronbach alpha reliability ratio for the five lower dimensions is 0.86, 0.82, 0.88, 0.88, 0.85 respectively. The total score correlations are between 0,497 and 0,739 (p<0,05). There was no difference between the score average of the test-re-test application performed with a four-week interval to assess the stability of the scale (p>0,05). The explanatory factor analysis found that the scale explained 66.16% of the total variance. The factor loads of the substances are between 0.50 and 0.82, the verifying factor analysis and the factor loads of the scale are between 0.64 and 0.82 and CMIN(x2)/df =3.384, the conformity well-being index =0.85, the standard conformity index =0.83, the comparative conformity index =0.88, the RMSEA is 0.08. Result: The results show that the OAS’s Turkish validity and reliability is high and can be used in the research that will be carried out.
