Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study, which is part of the multiprofessional matrix project entitled 'Multiprofessional assessment of obese patients in pre and post-operative bariatric and / or metabolic surgeries' developed at Hospital Geral Alberto Rassi in Goiânia-GO. Data were collected during the nutrition consultation of the PCCO (Obesity Surgery and Control Program). The research included participants of both sexes who were being followed up before and after bariatric surgery. The variables were analyzed: sex; age; education level; anthropometry; presence of comorbidities in the pre and postoperative period, biochemical levels (in the preoperative period and in the period from 6 to 24 months after the operation) of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting glycemia and glycated hemoglobin. Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows 16.0 program. Results: The sample was composed of 26 patients, the prevalent comorbidity was hypertension (88.5%), followed by diabetes (46.2%) and dyslipidemia (38.5%). Serum levels of glycated hemoglobin, fasting glycemia, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, weight, Body Mass Index, showed statistical differences before and after surgery. Conclusion: Bariatric surgery has been shown to be effective in weight loss, glycemic and lipid control, resulting in improved comorbidities associated with obesity.
