Abstract:

Reşat Nuri Güntekin is one of the powerful writers of Turkish literature during the Republican period. The artist, during the inspection of the Maarif Vekâli, in his trips to the various provinces of the country, had the opportunity to closely observe the Anadolu and the Anadolu people. He has profited largely of this experience and impressions while getting his novels. He brought a new breath to the Turkish novel by addressing the Anadolu and the Anadolu people. During the day, many of the travellers have also been recorded. He wrote these books under the name of the Anatolian Notes. The writer, in this work consisting of two leaves, has focused on many issues that concern Anatolia. The deprivations of Anadolu, which have been ignored for centuries, the virtues of the Anadolu people, the cities and towns, the roads, the hotels, the cafés, the theatres, the problems in the sale and distribution of books and periodic publications, the failures in the process of modernization and the footsteps in the innovation, the sight of the lights to Anadolu has been multi-faceted. In other words, Güntekin, the Republican period has made light on the social, cultural and economic structure of the Anatolian geography. The artist built a realistic Anadolu image instead of idealizing Anadolu. Thus, these writings have a very rich and valuable content that allows us to penetrate the early Republic period of Anadolu. The aim of this study is to identify how Güntekin sees the cultural life of Anadolu and how it reflects on his mentioned work. The cultural, historical and sociological resources were also used to show up interdisciplinary study.
