Amaç: Araştırmada tıp, diş hekimliği ve sağlık bilimleri fakültelerindeki öğrencilerin meslek seçimi ile ilgili faktörlerin saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Kesitsel tasarımdaki bu araştırmanın verileri Ekim-Aralık 2019 arasında toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini İzmir Bakırçay Üniversitesi ve İzmir Demokrasi Üniversitesi sağlık bilimleri alanında 2019-2020 döneminde eğitim alan birinci sınıf öğrencileri (n=796) oluşturmuştur. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen, meslek seçimini sorgulayan 25 sorudan oluşan elektronik bir form ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 23 paket programına kodlanarak analizleri yapılmıştır. Analizlerde dağılım istatistikleri ve hipotez testleri hesaplanmıştır. Anlamlılık değeri olarak p<0,05 kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerden 503’ü elektronik formu eksiksiz tamamlamıştır. Araştırmaya katılma oranı %63.19’dur. Öğrencilerin %58.4’ü (n:294) İzmir Demokrasi Üniversitesi’nde, %41.6’sı (n:209) İzmir Bakırçay Üniversitesi’nde eğitim görmektedir. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 19,01±2,04’tür. Öğrencilerin %70.2’si (n:353) kadındır. Öğrencilerin % 47.3’ü ilk beş tercihlerine yerleşmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin %80.3’ü fakülte/bölümünü isteyerek tercih etmiştir. Fakülte/bölüm tercih nedenleri sorgulandığında ilk beş sıradaki neden; insanlara yardımı sevme, İzmir’de eğitim görme, üniversite sınavında alınan puan, iş bulma kolaylığı ve kapasite-ilgi-yetenek alanına uygunluk olarak belirtilmiştir. Öğrencilerin %89.3’ü gelecekte bu mesleği sürdürmek istemektedir. Sonuç: Profesyonel mesleki kimlik kazandırma öğrencilikte başlar. Bu nedenle eğitim sistemi profesyonel kimliğin gelişimini sağlamada önemli ve etkili bir rol oynamaktadır. Mesleki seçimini isteyerek yapan öğrencilerin şu an sağlık profesyoneli olmak için eğitim alıyor olması önemli bir bulgudur. Mezuniyet sonrasında da seçtiği mesleğinde doyum alarak, humanistik yönlerini kaybetmeden ilerleyebilmeleri için eğitim süresince desteklenmeleri önemlidir. Öğrencilerin mesleki gelişimlerini daha bilinçli hale getirebilmek için nitelikli akademik danışmanlık almaları, mesleki gelişimlerini destekleyecek panel, sempozyum vb. bilimsel etkinliklere yönlendirilmesi ve kariyer danışmanlığı gibi eğitim programlarının geliştirilmesi önerilmektedir. Gelecek yıllarda öğrencilerin meslek seçimi ile ilgili faktörlerinin saptanmasına devam edilecektir.
Purpose: The research aims to identify the factors related to the career choice of students in the faculty of medicine, dental and health sciences. Method: The data of this research in the cutting design was collected between October-December 2019. The sample of the study was created by students of first class (n=796) who studied in the field of health sciences in the period 2019-2020. The data was collected in an electronic form consisting of 25 questions that question the choice of a profession developed by the researchers. The data is coded in the SPSS 23 package program. The analysis calculates the statistics of distribution and the hypothesis tests. The value of meaning is p<0,05. Results: 503 of the students have completed the electronic form in full. The participation rate in the survey is 63.19. 58.4 percent of students (n:294) are studying at İzmir Demokrasi University, 41.6 percent (n:209) are studying at İzmir Bakırçay University. The average age of students participating in the study is 19,01 ± 2,04 years. 70.2 percent of students (n. 353) are women. 47.3 percent of students were placed in the first five preferences. 80.3 percent of students have preferred their faculty/division. The first five reasons when asked for faculties/sections preference are indicated as: love to help people, study in Izmir, score obtained in the university exam, ease of job finding and suitability to the capacity-interest-talent field. 89.3% of students want to continue this profession in the future. The result: Professional professional identity gaining begins in the studenthood. Therefore, the educational system plays an important and effective role in ensuring the development of professional identity. It is an important conclusion that students who are willing to choose their career are currently training to become a health professional. After graduation, it is important that they are supported during the course of their training so that they can advance without losing their humanistic aspects by getting satisfied with their chosen profession. Students receive qualified academic advice to make their professional development more awareness, panel, symposium to support their professional development, etc. It is recommended to be directed to scientific events and to develop training programs such as career consultancy. In the coming years, students will continue to identify the factors related to their career choices.

The participation rate was 63.19%. 58.4% (n: 294) of the students continue their education at Izmir Democracy University and 41.6% (n: 209) at the Izmir Bakırçay University. 47.3% of the students settled in their first five preferences. 80.3% of the students chose the faculty/department willingly. When the reasons for faculty/department choice are questioned, the top five reasons are; the likelihood of helping people, the desire to educate in Izmir, the score obtained in the university exam, the ease of finding a job upon graduation, and the suitability to the capacity-interest-ability field. 89.3% of the students want to continue this career in the future. Conclusions: It’s an important finding that the students who make their professional choice are willing to be trained to be health professionals. After graduation, it’s important that they’re supported during their education so that they can proceed without losing their humanistic aspects, being satisfied with their chosen profession. In order to make the professional development of the students more conscious, it’s recommended that they receive qualified academic consultancy, direct them to scientific activities such as panels and symposiums that will support their professional development, and develop educational programs such as career counseling. In the coming years, the determination of the factors related to the choice of students will continue.
