Status of the Problem:It can be defended that education, one of the most important factors, is effective for existing and positioning of human rights and democracy awareness. Schools and teachers have great responsibilities to espouse this awareness. Determining attitudes of teachers and teacher candidates towards human rights and democracy and giving lectures about these issues especially to teacher candidates are important. Purpose of the Study: The aim of this research is to determine attitudes of teacher candidates in Balıkesir University Necatibey Faculty of Education towards human rights education and differences between attitudes whether they exist or not in terms of several variables. Method of the Study: The pattern of this research is descriptive survey model. The research is implemented with Balıkesir University Necatibey Faculty of Education Elementary Education Department forth grade students. In this research, Attitude Scale towards Human Rights Education ASHRE developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Karaman Kepenekçi, one of the members of Ankara University Educational Sciences Faculty Educational Management Department, in 1999 is used as a data collection tool. While analyzing data relating to schooling type I. and II. , gender and age variables, T- test for independent samples; and while analyzing data relating to department and high school type variables, one-way ANOVA for independent samples techniques were used. Findings and Conclusions: Gathered findings of the study were as follows: 1. It was ascertained that the attitudes of teacher candidates towards human rights is positive. 2. It was observed that there is no significant difference between students’ attitude points related to their departments. 3. It was discovered that there is no significant difference between students’ points related to their schooling type. 4. A significant difference between students’ attitudes towards human rights education related to their genders was not ascertained. 5. It was discovered that there is a meaningful difference between their attitude points according to their graduation school types. This meaningful difference between High School, Anatolian High School, Science High School and Anatolian Teacher High School is in favor of High School. Generally in research, it is observed that the teacher candidates have generally positive attitudes towards human rights education and there is no significant difference between attitudes.
