Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilimler alanında lisansüstü eğitim alan öğrencilere tez yazım sürecinde yardımcı olması için bir rapor hazırlanmaktır. Bu amaç için; UMI’de yer alan 172 tez, 19 kitap ve makale, rapor gibi diğer 23 kaynak incelenmiştir. Lisansüstü eğitim sürecinde olan öğrencilere yol göstereceği düşüncesiyle bu çalışmada “Bir tezin problemi, araştırma soruları, amacı, önemi, sınırlılıkları ve varsayımları nasıl ifade edilir?” sorusuna cevap aranmıştır. Ayrıca bulgular (findings), sonuçlar (results), sonuçların özeti (conclusions), iddia (assertions), tartışma (discussion), doğurgu (implications), öneriler (recommedations) bölümlerinin nasıl ifade edildikleri de araştırılmıştır. Nicel ve nitel yaklaşımlar bakımından her bir bölüm için ne tür farklılıkların olduğu incelenmiştir. Son olarak her bir bölümde iyi tezler örnek verilerek okuyucuya yol gösterici açıklamalar yapılmıştır.
