Dummett and Davidson think that language forms thought, but they do not mean exactly the same thing. Dummett believes that language is the priority of thought, while for Davidson, language or thought cannot be the priority of each other. Nevertheless, the idea that is the common part of these two thinkers can be expressed as follows: language is mandatory for thought. To understand this argument, I will discuss both Dummett’s and Davidson’s arguments and show that the main argument that is based on this argument for both is the objective argument. For both thinkers, I will argue that the source of the objectivity of thought is the natural language.
