In this report, we present a 13-year-old male case in whom thrombosis developed in the left subclavian artery due to blunt trauma-induced intimal injury in a motorcycle accident and in whom chronic upper extremity ischemia was treated with left subclavian-axillary bypass operation. The patient was admitted to our clinic with the complaints of left shoulder injury and with pain and coldness in the left arm and inability to move his arm and hand five months later. As physical examination revealed the absence of pulses in the left upper extremity, and digital subtraction angiography was performed, which showed an occluded segment approximately 6 cm in length from the distal side of the subclavian artery and vascular structures distal to the occlusion were enhanced by the contrast agent. The patient was scheduled for surgery. Under general anesthesia, a 6-mm ringed polytetrafluoroethylene graft was interposed and left subclavian-axillary bypass was performed. On postoperative Day 5, the patient was uneventfully discharged. Subclavian artery injury after blunt trauma is rare. Mostly, intimal injuryrelated thrombosis develops inside the lumen following trauma, leading to occlusion of the vessels. Bypass procedures according to the location of the occlusion are effective methods for extremity salvage.
