Turkey has been increasingly confronted with exterior and interior pressure on the minority problem. Turkey’s progress towards accession to Eorupean Union has contributed to the dispute. On the other hand, the minority problem is to much related to Turkey’s unification. Since, the significant value of the minority problem for Turkey, we tried to explain the minority rights in the frame of international conventions. Under the first title, in spite of the absence of a common definition, the sociological and legal meaning of the minority matter is brought up. Then the minority problem is loked over during the history. At the second title, the minority rights and duties and the classification of minority rights are summarized. Under the third title, which is the largest part of the study, the protection of the minorty rights in international law is questioned as devided into the subtitles. The international conventions on the minority rights, before The First War, after The First War and after The Second War are examined. The period after The Second War is presented by parting the subject to the conventions leaded by The United Nations, The Organization of Security Council Of Europe and The European Union. At the end of this part, with the situation of the minorities in the Europen Union Member Countries is shortly dealt. Under the fortht title, after a historical look over on the minorities in Ottoman Empire, the legal statue of the minorities in Turkey is examined in the frame of The Lausanne Agreement and the harmonisation codes for European Union acquise. At last, the use of minority rights in international politics and the meaning of this for Turkey are broght up under the concept of globalisation
