Abstract:

The relationship between diabetes and sexual function was first defined by Ibni Sina as a complication characterized by diabetes in the 10th century, called the collapse of sexual function, but due to sexual taboo, this issue was not investigated until the 1950s. Diabetes affects 3-6% of the entire population. In male diabetic patients, interest or motivation for sexual intercourse, suboptimal glycemic control, altered body image, reduced energy, diet compliance, or the difficulties in controlling glucose levels may be affected by individual-specific problems. The frequency of erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes increases with age, and some studies report a high rate of 75%. Studies on female sexual function found that Kolodny was neglected until the first publication in 1971. When the published articles are scaned, there are 477 publications on the role of diabetes in male sexual dysfunction, while only 19 in women. This disproportion in data is partially due to the difficulties in measuring sexual response in women. While erectile dysfunction in men is easily measured and reflects the direct subjective stimulation of men, it is more difficult to measure the genital conjunction due to a bad correlation with the subjective stimulation of women. During this collection, we will analyze the pathophysology of sexual dysfunction in men and women and the current treatment options.
