Hofmannsthal, Doğu dünyasına çocukluğundan bu yana aşinadır. Yazar uzun yıllar Doğu ile ilgilendikten sonra Doğu‟ya bir gezi düzenler. Hofmannsthal‟ın 1925‟te Kuzey Afrika‟ya yapmış olduğu yolculuğu, Doğu ile ilk ve son doğrudan temasını teşkil eder. Yazar bu seyahatinde, Zifferer ailesi ile birlikte Fas‟a, Cezayir‟e ve Tunus‟a gider. Fes ve Saleh şehirleri onu etkiledi. Gezip gördüğü bu yerlerle ilgili bir seyahatname yazdı. Seyahatnamesinin Fez adlı ilk bölümünde bu şehrin atmosferi ve insanlarıyla ilgili kendi izlenimlerini kaleme aldı. Bu bölüm Fez başlığı ile 12 Nisan 1925‟te Berliner Tageblatt adlı gazetede yayınlandı „Das Gespräch in Saleh” olarak 31 Mayıs 1925‟te Wiener Freie Presse‟de yayınlanan ikinci bölümde ise Fransızcanın Fas‟taki varlığı ve Fransız ile Alman dili ve kültürünün yansımaları üzerine bir konuşma yer almaktadır. Bu makalede, Hofmannsthal‟ın ‚Doğu„ imgesi, yazılarına dayanılarak analiz edilecektir.
Hofmannsthal has been familiar with the Eastern world since his childhood. After many years of interest in the East, the author organizes a trip to the East. The journey of Hofmannsthal to North Africa in 1925 constitutes his first and last direct contact with the East. In this trip, the author goes to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia with the Zifferer family. Fes and Saleh towns affected him. He wrote a book about the places he visited. In the first part of his trip, Fez made his own impressions about the atmosphere of this city and its people. This chapter was published in the Berliner Tageblatt newspaper on April 12, 1925 with the title of Fez, "Das Gespräch in Saleh" on May 31, 1925 "Wiener Freie Presse" and the second chapter contains a speech on the presence of French in Morocco and the reflections of French and German language and culture. In this article, Hofmannsthal’s image “Eastern” will be analyzed on the basis of his writings.
Hofmannsthal ist seit seiner Kindheit mit der orientalischen Welt vertraut. Erst nach langjähriger Beschäftigung mit dem Orient hat Hofmannsthal eine Reise in den Orient unternommen. Hofmannsthals Reise nach Nordafrika im Jahre 1925 war sein erster und letzter direkter Kontakt mit dem Orient. Er reiste mit der Familie Zifferer nach Marokko, Algerien und Tunesien. Die Städte Fés und Saleh hatten ihn beeindruckt. Er schrieb einen Reisebericht über diese Reise. Der erste Teil seines Reiseberichts Fez berichtet über die Atmosphäre der Stadt und die Einwohner sowie Hofmannsthals Eindrücke und Wahrnehmungen. Er wurde am 12. April 1925 im Berliner Tageblatt publiziert. Im zweiten Teil des Berichts „Das Gespräch in Saleh“ handelt es sich um ein Gespräch über das Vorhandensein der Franzosen in Marokko und Reflexionen über die französische und die deutsche Sprache und Kultur. Er wurde am 31. Mai 1925 in der Wiener Freien Presse veröffentlicht. In diesem Aufsatz wird Hofmannsthals Orientbild anhand seines Reiseberichts analysiert.
