Abstract This study aimed to identify and present conceptions, beliefs and football episodic contexts that marked the life of the participating subjects - teenagers / students - as content and teaching strategy in physical education classes in high school. The reports were obtained from the method of collective participation of opinions, called "conversation circle" with students from a state school in Cuiabá-MT. The study indicated the need to think about football in a social and historical context in physical education classes and not only as a sports element explored from the technical and tactical experience. Thus, students will be perceived as critical and participative citizens socially and not just copiers of the physical skills and media discourses.
