Abstract We present below the Arabic edition and the unpublished Portuguese translation of “O casal de patos e o maçarico”, considered one of the so to speak “intruders” chapters of the Kitāb Kalīla wa-Dimna, one of the most widespread texts in medieval literature and whose Arabic version, made by Abdullāh Rozbih Ibn al-Muqaffac, is used as a reference text for the recasts of this translation in different geographical environments, cultures and histories, thus allowing for the dissemination and intertwining of Eastern and Western imaginaries. This chapter appears to exist in only three Arabic manuscripts of this work, despite appearing in more than one of its many ancient translations, such as the Spanish one, made in the 13th century, under the auspices of Alfonso the Wise.
