Abstract:

Shortly after the Thief War, the Varto region, which entered the Ottoman rule, was connected with Hınıs and Handırıs to Bitlis sanctuary. By 1540 Varto, which was bound to the Bitlis sanctuary, became a native of Hınıs after the Erzurum state was formed and Hınıs was made a sanctuary subject to this. Varto's existence in the administrative body continued until the middle of the 19th century. In the second half of the 19th century, Varto, which was linked to the Moshe, was first managed as a disaster. In this study, the administrative, social, settlement, population and family structure of Varto in the middle of the 17th century, which is today a district center connected to Muş, was studied according to four avariums (1642, 1643, 1645 and 1650). 17 . In the century, the question of how many villages there were in Varto, who or what families in these villages lived, how much tax they paid to the state center, has been asked. Also, comparisons between the two centuries were made using the data of the 16th century's drainage record.
