Abstract:

Objective: To determine the relationship between the care burden and physical activity levels of parents with disabled children. Methods: 100 parents who met the desired criteria were included in the study. The data were collected electronically and the "General Information Form" was used for the socio-demographic information of the participants, the "International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF)" for the physical activity levels, and the "Zarit Care-Giving Burden Scale (ZCBS)" was used for the care burden. Results: It was determined that 42.6% of the participants did low-level physical activity, 44.6% moderate physical activity, and 11.9% did high-level physical activity. It was found that 18.8% of the parents had a little/no care burden, 50.5% had a mild/moderate and 29.7% a moderate/severe caregiving burden. A low-level statistically significant positive correlation was found between the burden of care and the disability rate of the child (r=0.205, p<0.05). In addition, it was determined that there was no significant relationship between the burden of care and the duration of caregiving (p>0.05). The care burden scores of parents with high physical activity levels were found to be statistically higher than those with moderate levels (r=0.023, p<0.05). Conclusion: It has been observed that as the disability rate of children increases, the burden of care for the parents increases and the care burden of the parents who are in high level physical activity is higher.
