Abstract This essay intends to deepen in the way tales are created, flow and interweave in Pedro Almodóvar's Broken embraces (2009). Departing from a poststructuralist approach, we attempt to focus on transtextual bonds (Genette) flowing in different discourses perceived in the film. Due to this fact, we also try to underline Almodóvar's effort to generate an artistic product where fiction manages to become a single reality. This leads us both to analyse the film in light of the concept of "Precession of simulacra" (Baudrillard) and to underline the relevance of discoursive reflection. Likewise, we pay attention to the different speech frames that can be found there and their most outstanding functions, as storytellers and filmmakers are often defined in other tales boundaries. Furthermore, from the point of view of literary theory, we pursue to show how strong these framed-tales support the main features of Almodóvar's postmodernist cinema: intertextuality, mixture of genres, a dialogue inter artes, re-reading of cinematographic and pictorial imaginaries and, mainly, the long- lasting play with metafictional practices.
