Abstract This study addresses the playful culture of boys and girls from a school in the Amazon of Pará. From the problem raised, how do children in early childhood education in the countryside experience playful culture? We launched as the central objective, to examine practices and playful experiments conducted by girls and boys from the countryside. As it is a study with and not about children, the socio-historical approach with direct observation was adopted as a method to survey aspects of their lives. Still, we used the thematic narratives to deepen what we were unable to capture in the observations. Finally, the production of drawing made it possible for children to represent what they understand as playful culture. The results showed that children in early childhood education in the countryside, being under the control of the school, present forms of resistance for the right to play. They transform teaching resources, such as educational games, books, chairs, into different objects of their imagination.
