Abstract:

Altın Yaprak (Golden Leaf) Periodical published by Bolu Teachers’ Union in Ottoman Turkish in 1925 was an educational publication with news and articles related to education, culture, history, science and literature. The periodical with a total of 13 issues was published in every fifteen days. However, sometimes the periodical was also published three times a month. The periodical was printed by Bolu Provincial Press. It was possible to come across student writings as well as adverts in the periodical. One of the columns published in the periodical in different fields was reserved for articles titled “Notes on Education” which the present article focuses on. These articles were published in Altın Yaprak Periodical as a series by Mehmet Zekâi Bey and Ahmet İzzet Bey who worked as History, Geography and Psychology teachers in Bolu. These articles talked about the history of education, the emotional, moral, scientific and economic dimensions of education and elements of education. This study will enlighten the reader in comprehending the reflections of Republican Era’s establishment and educational philosophy at provincial level during the first years. The study identified the original (Ottoman Turkish) texts of these article series and evaluated their content.
