Kuraklık insanlığı tehdit eden en önemli doğal afetlerdendir. Genel olarak yağışların normal seviyelerinin altına düşmesiyle başlayan kuraklık yüzey ve yeraltısularının miktarındaki azalmalara neden olmaktadır. Kuraklıktan kaynaklanan olumsuz etkilerin en aza indirilmesine yönelik çalışmalarda öncelikle kuraklığın doğru olarak tanımlanarak havza bazında kuraklık yönetim stratejilerinin geliştirilmesi gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada Çorak Gölü Havzasındaki meteorolojik kuraklığın şiddeti ve alansal dağılımları coğrafi bilgi sistemleri ortamında zamansal olarak haritalandırılmıştır. Bu amaçla kullanılan standartlaştırılmış yağış indeksi sonuçlarına göre 1970-2016 yılları arasında en kurak dönemin 1989 ve 1990 yılları, en yağışlı dönemin ise 2009 yılında yaşandığı belirlenmiştir.

Dryness is one of the biggest natural disasters that threatens humanity. In general, the drought, which begins with the fall of rain below normal levels, causes a decrease in the amount of surface and underground. In the studies aimed at minimizing the negative effects caused by drought, it is primarily to develop drought management strategies on the basis of the pool by correctly identifying the drought. In this study, the severity of meteorological drought and the alansal distribution in the Chorak Lake Pool are temporarily maped in the environment of geographical information systems. According to the standardized rain index, the most dry period between 1970 and 2016 was 1989 and 1990 and the most rainy period was 2009.

Generally, the drought, starts when precipitation falls below the normal levels and leads to a decrease in the amount of surface and groundwater in the later stages. The first studies to minimize the negative effects of drought is accurate definition of drought and development of drought management strategies on basin. In this study, the intensity and spatial distribution of meteorological drought in the Çorak Lake Basin were temporarily mapped in the geographical information systems (GIS) environment. According to the standardized precipitation index results used for this purpose, during the years 1970-2016, the driest period was seen in 1989 and 1990 years, and the most rainy period was in 2009.
