Son yıllarda adını sıklıkla duyduğumuz Z kuşağı, günlük hayatın hemen her noktasında yaygın olarak kullanılan teknolojiler ile iç içe yaşanan bir zaman diliminde doğan ve bunun getirdiği çeşitli özellikleri içinde barındıran bir kuşağı ifade etmektedir. Bu konuda son yıllarda çok çeşitli alanlarda çalışmalar yapılmış ve Z kuşağının özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmada Z kuşağı ile ilgili çalışmalar farklı yönleriyle –yayınlandığı yıl, konu, yöntem, amaç, Z kuşağı özellikleri, elde edilen sonuçlar, öneriler ve eğitim alanında Z kuşağı- incelenmiştir. İncelemede betimsel içerik analizi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Öncelikle yayın başlığında “z kuşağı”, “net-generation”, “i-generation” anahtar kelimeleri bulunan 131 makale elde edilmiş, daha sonra ön analizler yapılarak araştırma amacına uygunluğuna ve elde edilebilirliğine göre makale sayısı 85’e düşürülmüştür. Çalışmalardan elde edilen bulgulara göre z kuşağına yönelik olarak yapılan araştırmalarda en çok makale sayısına 2017 yılında ulaşıldığı görülmüş, bu çalışmaların en çok öğrenme profili üzerinde yapıldığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmaların amaçlarının genellikle z kuşağının kritik özelliklerinin belirlenmesine odaklandığı, bu araştırmaların daha çok nicel olduğu ve sonuçlarda Z kuşağında yer alan bireylerin teknoloji kullanma eğilimlerinin diğer dijital yerlilere oranla daha fazla olduğu görülmüştür. Z kuşağının ihtiyaç duyduğu ortamlar tasarlanırken bilgiye hızlı erişme, liderlik ve duyarlılık gibi kendilerine özgü niteliklerinin göz önünde bulundurularak teknoloji tabanlı araçlardan faydalanılması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
The Z generation, which we have often heard its name in recent years, represents a generation that is born in an intrinsic period of time with technologies that are widely used in almost every point of everyday life and contains the various characteristics it brings. In recent years, many studies have been conducted on this subject and the characteristics of the Z-generation have been studied. In this study, studies related to the Z-generation have been studied in different aspects – the year, the subject, the method, the purpose, the characteristics of the Z-generation, the achieved results, the recommendations and the training field of the Z-generation. In the examination, visual content analysis methods were used. First, 131 articles were obtained with the keywords "z generation", "net-generation", "i-generation" in the title of the publication, then the number of articles was reduced to 85 according to the suitability and availability of the research purpose by making preliminary analyses. According to the findings obtained from the studies, the number of articles in the studies conducted towards the z generation was found to be the largest in 2017, and the most of these studies were conducted on the learning profile. In addition, the objectives of the studies are often focused on determining the critical characteristics of the Z-generation, these studies are more quantitative, and the results show that individuals in the Z-generation tend to use technology more than other digital indigenous people. The design of the environments that the Z generation needs has come to the conclusion that the technology-based tools should be used, taking into account their specific qualities, such as rapid access to information, leadership and sensitivity.
The term “Z-generation” defines a group of people born in an era when the daily technologies and certain behavioral patterns are common, and has been mentioned more and more in the literature as well as in media. There are various studies in different fields to seek certain characteristics of Z-generation. In this study, publications about Z-generation are investigated for a number of aspects, primarily; year, subject, method, purpose, findings and recommendations, Z-generation in educational environments. Descriptive content analyses techniques are used in this investigation. The 131 publications are collected from an academic search engine with the key words: “z-genetarion”, “net-generation”, and “i-generation”. Among them 85 are selected as a pre-analysis, consistent with the purpose of this study and accessibility. According to the findings, the most articles are published in the year 2017 mainly about educational profiling. The studies additionally focus on critical features of Z-generation using quantitative methods. The results show that the individuals in Z-generation tend to more use technology comparing to other digital natives. Some unique features such as fast information processing, leadership and sensitivity should be addressed when designing learning environments needed for Z-generation. It is concluded that technology based tools should be used to reach out this generation.
