Bu çalışmada öğretmenlik mesleği, öğretmenin görev ve sorumlulukları, etkili öğretmen nitelikleri ve öğretmen rolleri tartışılmıştır. İnsan, hayatının her aşamasında bilgi edinmeye ve öğrenmeye gereksinim duyan bir varlıktır. Bu ihtiyaç ilk olarak anne-baba sonra yakın çevre ve okulda öğretmenler tarafından karşılanmaktadır. Öğretmenin öğrencilerine okulda verdiği bilgiler, kazandırdığı beceriler, edindirdiği tutum ve değerler, öğrenciler açısından yaşam boyu devam eden yaygın etkiye sahiptir. Bu anlamda öğretmenin kendisi ve icra ettiği öğretmenlik mesleği, geçmişten günümüze diğer mesleklerden farklı ve özel bir yere konumlandırılmış ve kutsanmıştır. Nitekim öğretmen öğrencilerine sadece bilgiyi aktaran değil öğrencilerin kişilik gelişimini bütün yönleriyle destekleyen bir rol model konumundadır. Öğretmen bugünün çocukları ya da gençlerini eğitmekle kalmayıp, aslında yarının büyüklerini ve gelecek nesli yetiştirmektedir. Bu sorumluluk bağlamında öğretmenin, öğretmenlik mesleğinin gerektirdiği bilgi, beceri ve yeterliklere sahip olması ve bu durumunda ötesinde öğretmenliği bir yaşam biçimi haline getirmesi zorunluluk olarak görülmektedir. Bu noktada öğretmen yetiştirmeye her zaman önem verilmeli ve öğretmenlik mesleğinin itibarı yüceltilmelidir.
This study discussed the teaching profession, the teacher’s tasks and responsibilities, the effective teacher qualities and the teacher’s roles. Man is a being that needs to learn and learn at every stage of his life. This need is first met by parents and then by teachers in the near environment and school. The knowledge that the teacher gives to students in school, the skills he acquires, the attitudes and values he acquires, have a widespread lifelong impact on the student’s point of view. In this sense, the teacher himself and the teaching profession he performed, from the past to the present, have been placed and blessed in a different and special place than other professions. In fact, the teacher is not only a role model that transmits information to students, but also a role model that supports students’ personality development in all aspects. The teacher does not only educate today’s children or youths, but he actually educates tomorrow’s grandparents and future generations. In the context of this responsibility, it is considered mandatory that the teacher possesses the knowledge, skills and qualifications that the teaching profession requires and, in this case, that teaching is a way of life. At this point, teaching should always be paid attention and the reputation of the teaching profession should be praised.
In this study, the teaching profession, the roles, duties and responsibilities of the teacher, and effective teacher qualifications were discussed. Man is a being that needs to learn and acquire knowledge at every stage of his life. This need is met first by parents, then by the people in immediate environment and by teachers in schools. The teaching and learning experiences at school have a lifelong effect on the students’ life. In this sense, "teaching profession" has been given a special place among other jobs/works from the past to the present. As a matter of fact, the teacher is not only a role model who transfers knowledge to the students, but also supports the development of students in all aspects. The teacher is not just educating today's children or young people. In fact, s/he shapes the life of elders of tomorrow and the next generation. In the context of this responsibility, the teacher must have the knowledge, skills and competencies required by the teaching profession. Beyond that, teaching profession should become a way of life. At this point, teacher education deserves more attention and the status of the teaching profession and teachers should always be high.
