Yoğun rekabetin yaşandığı günümüzde, ülkemizin dünyadaki ekonomi işbirliğini sağlaması, Avrupa Birliğine girmesi, bu yolda ilerleyip, ekonomisi güçlü bir ülke olması, istenen hedeflere ulaşabilmesi, Küresel pazar koşulların her yönünü tanıması, tüm dünyayı etkileyen değişimin getirdiği çeşitli yapısal önlemleri alması ve gerçekleştirmesi için; “Rekabet edebilen Kalite” kavramını anlamak gerekir. İmalat sanayinde ilk gerçekleştirilen verimliliktir. Daha sonra rekabet ortamının sağlanması ve istenmesidir. Böyle bir durumda gerek ulusal gerekse de uluslararası pazarlarda rekabet şartlarına sahip olmak için üretimde verimliliğin yanı sıra değişim ve kaliteye de önem verilmesi zorunludur. Bu çalışma ile bahsedilen kavramların yanı sıra imalat sanayii işletmelerinde kalite yönetimindeki değişim ve gelişmeleri anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır.
