Sosyal bilgiler dersi, disiplinlerarası bir ders olup, Türkçenin söz varlığı açısından zengin bir içeriğe sahip olmasını gerektirmektedir. Söz varlığının öğrencilere kazandırılmasında en önemli materyal ders kitaplarıdır. Bu bağlamda ders kitapları Türkçenin söz varlığını yansıtabilmeli ve öğrencilerin kişisel söz varlıklarını da geliştirici nitelikte olabilmelidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, 6. sınıf sosyal bilgiler ders kitabındaki Türkçenin söz varlığını tespit etmektir. Çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan doküman incelemesi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın verileri 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında Talim Terbiye Kurulu’nca kabul edilen 6. sınıf sosyal bilgiler ders kitabından elde edilmiştir. Veriler içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulardan hareketle 6. sınıf sosyal bilgiler ders kitabında Batı kökenli kelimelerin kullanımın büyük bir çeşitliliğe sahip olduğu, daha çok Fransızca kökenli kelimelerden oluştuğu, Türkçenin deyim zenginliğinin ders kitabına yansıtıldığı belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin kişisel söz varlığını geliştirebilecek kalıp sözlere, ikilemlere ve farklı disiplinlere ait terimlere yer verildiği tespit edilmiş olup, disiplinlerarası bir ders içeriğine sahip olmasına rağmen 6. sınıf sosyal bilgiler ders kitabında atasözlerine neredeyse hiç yer verilmediği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Social studies course is an interdisciplinary course and requires a rich content in terms of Turkish vocabulary. The most important material in gaining vocabulary to students is textbooks. In this context, textbooks should be able to reflect the vocabulary of Turkish and improve students' personal vocabulary. The aim of this study is to determine the vocabulary of Turkish in the 6th grade social studies textbook. The study was carried out using document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data of the study were obtained from the 6th grade social studies textbook accepted by the Board of Education in the 2018-2019 academic year. The data were analyzed and interpreted with content analysis. Based on the findings obtained, it was determined that the use of Western-origin words in the 6th grade social studies textbook has a great variety, consists mostly of French-origin words, and the richness of Turkish idioms is reflected in the textbook. It was determined that there were phrases, dilemmas and terms belonging to different disciplines that could improve the students' personal vocabulary, and it was concluded that proverbs were almost never included in the 6th grade social studies textbook, although it has an interdisciplinary course content.
