Aydın kimliğiyle yaşadığı dönemin hem siyasî ve sosyal hayatında hem de eğitim hayatında önemli bir yere sahip olan Halide Edib Adıvar’ın anılarını sadece onu tanımak ve anlamak için değil, dönemin eğitim anlayışını, yaklaşımlarını öğrenerek bugüne ve geleceğe ışık tutmak için de okumak ve incelemek gerekmektedir. Bu bakış açısıyla çalışmada Millî Edebiyat (1911-1923) ve Cumhuriyet Dönemi’nde (1923 ve sonrası) pek çok eser kaleme almış Halide Edib’in 1926 yılında Londra’da İngilizce olarak yayımlanan The Memoirs of Halide Edib ile 1963 yılında yayımlanan Mor Salkımlı Ev adlı eserlerinde dil eğitiminin önemli bir aşaması olarak okuma eğitimine dair aktarılan düşünce, görüş ve yaşantıları doküman incelemesine dayanan betimsel nitelikli tarama yöntemi kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Halide Edib Adıvar (1882-1964), Memoirs of Halide Edib adlı kitabında çocukluğundan başlayarak 1918 yılına kadar olan yaşamını anlatmaktadır. Modern Türk Edebiyatının en tanınmış anı kitaplarından biri olan ve Türkçede Mor Salkımlı Ev adı ile ilk kez 1963 yılında yayımlanan eser, yazarın kendisinin de daha sonra ifade ettiği üzere, öz itibariyle aynı olmakla birlikte İngilizce eserin doğrudan bir çevirisi değildir. Bu nedenle, Türkçe ve İngilizce düşünme ile yazmanın başkalığı, yazarın anılarını ilk olarak İngilizce kaleme aldığı ve iki eserin hacim ve kapsam yönünden farklı oluşu göz önünde bulundurularak çalışmada The Memoirs of Halide Edib (1926) adlı eser ile Mor Salkımlı Ev (1963) birlikte incelenecektir. Halide Edib’in anıları arasında büyük yer tutan ve okuma kültürünü oluşturan, küçük yaşta bir çocukken okumaya duyduğu ilgi ve bu ilgiyi besleyen ortam, çevresini saran yetişkin dünyasında konu edilen yazarlar ve eserler, okur-yazarlığa ve okula başlama törenleri, okul ve öğretmenleri aracılığıyla tanıştığı kitaplar ve bunlar üzerine yapılan değerlendirmeler, yabancı dil öğretiminde karşılaştığı yöntem ve yaptığı okumalar çalışmada ele alınacak konu başlıkları arasındadır.
It is necessary to read and study the memories of Halide Edib Adıvar, who has an important place in both political and social life and in the educational life of the period he lived with a clear identity, not only to recognize and understand him, but also to keep the light to the present and the future by learning the educational understanding of the period, the approaches to it. From this point of view, the work in National Literature (1911-1923) and the Republic Period (1923 and later) received many works of Halide Edib in the 1926 in English published in London with the Memoirs of Halide Edib in 1963 published in the works named Mor Salkımlı House was evaluated using the visual quality scan method based on the document study of the thoughts, opinions and experiences transmitted about reading education as an important stage of language education. Halide Edib Adıvar (1882-1964), in his book Memoirs of Halide Edib, tells the story of his life from childhood to 1918. The work, one of the most famous memorial books of modern Turkish literature and first published in 1963 with the name Mor Salkımlı House in Turkish, is not a direct translation of the work in English, although it is the same as the author himself later expressed. Therefore, the distinction of writing with Turkish and English thinking, the writer's memories are first made in English and taking into account the different forms in terms of volume and scope of the two works will be studied together with the work The Memoirs of Halide Edib (1926) and Mor Salkımlı House (1963) in the study. Halide Edib's memories, which holds a great place and forms the reading culture, the interest he feels to read as a young child and the environment that feeds this interest, the writers and works that are discussed in the adult world that surrounds him, the read-writing and school opening ceremonies, the books he met through school and teachers and the evaluations on them, the method he encounters in the teaching of foreign languages and the lectures he does are among the topics that will be discussed in the study.
It is necessary to read and examine the memories of Halide Edib Adıvar, who has an important place not only in our political and social lives but also in our education lives, by understanding the educational approaches of the period to light on our present and future. From this point of view, in the book "Memoirs of Halide Edib" published in London in 1926 by Halide Edib Adıvar, who wrote many books in Millî Edebiyat (1911-1923) and Republic Period (1923 and later) will be assessed using a descriptive screening method based on a review of the ideas, opinions and experiences of reading education. Halide Edib Adıvar (1882-1964) describes her life from childhood to 1918 in her book Memoirs of Halide Edib. The book, which was first published in 1963 under the name of Mor Salkımlı Ev, one of the most well known of the modern Turkish Literature, is not a direct translation of the English book, with the same essence as the author herself later stated. For this reason, The Memoirs of Halide Edib (1926) and Mor Salkımlı Ev (1963) will be examined in the study in consideration of the otherness of writing in Turkish and English, and the fact that the author's memories were first written in English. The interest of reading, the writers and books on the adult world that surrounds the environment, ceremonies, the books she has met through the school and her teachers, the methods they have used in teaching foreign language are among the topics to be covered in the study.
