Karagöz Karikatürlerinde Kafkasya
2022
Journal:

Author:
Abstract:

Abstract:

Karagöz, which started its publishing life in Istanbul in 1908, is a weekly humor magazine with four pages and covered the developments related to the period with the characters of Karagöz and Hacivat. One of the issues addressed by Karagöz, who is a witness of a long period in Turkish journalism, is the situation of Tsarist Russia in the Caucasus, which has been an eternal enemy of the Ottoman State for centuries. Russia, which settled in the Caucasus since the 1800s, I. In World War II, it defeated the Ottoman Empire on the Caucasian front and occupied a large area. In the process of the Bolshevik revolution of 1917 and the fall of tsarist Russia, local groups as well as the great powers clashed in the Caucasus. In this context, the reflection of the developments in the Caucasus on the Turkish humor press has been examined through Karagöz cartoons. Here, the deconstruction of the two empires that were removed from the historical scene in the period between 1914 and 1925 and the developments in the Caucasus on the axis of the shapes and relations of the two newly established states in the new world order are examined. In this aspect, the issue is limited to the period between the Caucasian front, which was opened with the start of the world war in 1914, and the period up to the neutrality and friendship treaty concluded in 1925.
