Abstract The article deals with the trajectory and contributions of studies with and about babies, their education and care in the context of the nursery, developed at the Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas sobre a Pequena Infância (Nupein) at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). All research, master's and doctoral, developed by the members of the nucleus, during its 30 years of existence, were analyzed, with a first dissertation defended on the theme in 2000 and the last one in 2019. The analysis of the works allowed the delimitation of 9 theme categories: babies; care; teaching; relations; body; languages; play; insertion and families, which were grouped into three central categories: babies; teaching-relations and care-body. The analyzed studies represent a continuous and dialogical production among Nupein researchers, at the interface between Pedagogy of Childhood and other fields of knowledge, in a growing movement to refine the theoretical construct that has significantly helped to give visibility to babies and specificities of educational processes.
