This study investigates burnout syndrome among police officiers and the affects of personel factors such as age, gender, marital status, work experiences, position and satisfaction with pay. 312 police officiers working in Ankara participated in this study. A personal information form is used to get personal information and Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to assess the burnout level. Burnout in the police force is analysed in one composite general burnout measure consisting of three dimensions namely, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment and the impact of demographic variables over these dimensions is examined. The study shows that relatively older employees and employees who are at a higher career stage experience more burnout than relatively younger employees and employees who are at the beginning stage of their career. The study also depicts that single employees have more burnout than married employees. The study found no significant effects of gender, satisfaction with pay, and position on bornout level.
