Hadislerin sahihini sakiminden ayırmada muhaddislerin isnad kontrol sistemi olarak kullandığı cerh ve ta’dil ilmi, Zâhirîler nezdinde de önemli bir yere sahiptir. Zahirî âlimleri cerh ve ta’dil ilmine dair bilgiler verdikleri gibi râvi değerlendirmelerinde de bulunmuşlardır. Özellikle İbn Hazm ve İbnü’l-Kayserânî zikri geçen ilimde belli bir otoriteye sahip olmuşlardır. Zâhirîler, cerh ve ta’dilin önemiyle birlikte birçok hususa da değinmişlerdir.
