STEM Eğitimi ve Arduino Uygulamaları Hakkında Öğretmen Adaylarının Görüşleri

Abstract:

Bilim ve teknolojinin hızla geliştiği günümüzde ülkeler; problem çözebilen, araştıran-sorgulayan, topluma katkı sağlayan üretken bireyler yetiştirmeyi hedeflemektedir. Bu hedefle birçok ülke yeni eğitim reformları ve projeler başlatmış ve bu düşünceyle STEM eğitimi popülerliğini kazanmıştır. Türkiye’de de öğrencilerin STEM eğitimi ve STEM işgücünün iyileştirilmesi konusunda bilgi ve becerilerin geliştirilmesine yönelik çalışmalar yapılmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı, fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2237A Programı kapsamında gerçekleştirilen STEM eğitimi ve Arduino ile fiziksel programlama etkinlikleri hakkında görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, üniversitelerin fen bilgisi öğretmenliği programı 4. sınıfında okuyan 26 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma, etkinlik programı kapsamında 6 gün süreyle yürütülmüştür. Betimsel araştırma yönteminde gerçekleştirilen araştırmada özel durum çalışması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmış ve içerik analizi tekniği ile değerlendirilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının STEM eğitimi ve Arduino ile fiziksel programlama hakkında olumlu görüşlere sahip olduğu ve uygulanan programın bilgi, beceri ve deneyim anlamında önemli kazanımlar sağladığı belirlenmiştir. Katılımcılar bu tarz uygulamaların öğrencilerde problem çözme, yaratıcılık, girişimcilik becerileri gibi 21. yüzyıl becerilerini geliştirebileceğini, öğrenme ortamlarında disiplinlerarası yaklaşımı benimseme, motivasyonu artırma, kariyer bilinci oluşturma gibi olumlu etkilere sahip olabileceğini belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca öğretmen adayları mesleki yeterlikleri anlamında, bu tarz proje, kurs ve eğitimlere ihtiyaç duyduklarını belirtmişlerdir.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of science and technology, countries are aimed at educating productive individuals who can solve problems, research, and contribute to society. With this goal, many countries have launched new educational reforms and projects, and with this idea STEM education has gained popularity. In Turkey, there are also studies aimed at developing knowledge and skills on STEM training and improving STEM workforce. The aim of the study in this context is to determine the opinions of teachers candidates for science knowledge on STEM training and physical programming activities with Arduino under the TÜBİTAK BIDEB 2237A Programme. The research study group, the university's science knowledge teaching program 4. There are 26 teachers in the class. The work was carried out for 6 days within the framework of the program. In the research method of visual research, a specific state study method was used. The data of the study was collected through a semi-configured interview form and evaluated by content analysis technique. The analysis found that the teaching candidates had positive views on STEM training and physical programming with Arduino and that the applied program provided significant achievements in terms of knowledge, skills and experience. Participants have these types of practices in students with problem-solving, creativity, entrepreneurial skills such as 21. They pointed out that they can develop their century skills, have positive effects such as adopting interdisciplinary approaches in learning environments, increasing motivation, creating career awareness. Also, teachers candidates have pointed out that in terms of their professional qualifications, they need this type of project, course and training.

To achieve this goal, many countries have initiated new educational reforms and projects, and STEM education has gained popularity with this idea. STEM education and workforce improvement activities are carried out in Turkey, too. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the opinions of science teacher candidates about STEM education and physical programming activities with Arduino within the scope of TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2237A. The study group consisted of 26 students in the 4th grade of the science teaching program of the universities. The study lasted 6 days under the activity program. One of the descriptive research methods, special case method was used. The data of the study was collected with semi-structured interview form and evaluated with content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the students had positive opinions about STEM education and physical programming with Arduino and the program implemented provided significant gains in terms of knowledge, skills and experience. The participants stated that such practices can improve 21st century skills such as problem solving, creativity and entrepreneurship skills, adopting interdisciplinary approach in learning environments, increasing motivation and creating career awareness. The teacher candidates also stated they need such projects, courses and trainings in terms of their professional competencies.
