Günümüzde ekonomik bir olgu olarak her geçen gün önemi artan turizm sektörü, gelir, iş ve vergi gelir-lerinin oluşturulmasında, ödemeler dengesi problemlerinin hafifletilmesinde önemli bir araçtır. Turizm sektörünün talep esnekliği ise oldukça yüksektir. Turizm sektörü diğer sektörlere göre politik sorunlar, salgın hastalıklar, ekonomik krizler gibi olaylardan daha hızlı etkilenmektedir. Bu bağlamda Aralık 2019’da ortaya çıkan ve o tarihten bu yana küresel olarak yayılmaya devam eden Covid-19 virüsü, insan sağlığının yanı sıra turizm sektörünü de olumsuz olarak etkileyen bir olay olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Covid-19 salgınının turizm sektörü üzerindeki ekonomik etkilerini kavramsal olarak ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada öncelikle daha önce yaşanmış olan krizlerin turizme etkileri üzerinde durulmuştur ve ekonomik verilerle Covid 19 virüsünün turizme yönelik olası etkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında kontrollü ve sağlıklı turizm kavramı ortaya konmaktadır. Çalışma sonucuna göre, salgının yol açacağı talep şoklarının turizm sektöründe istihdam ve gelir kayıplarına yol açması kaçınılmaz görünmektedir.
Today, as an economic phenomenon, the increasing importance of the tourism sector is an important tool in the creation of income, business and tax revenues, relieving the problems of payment balance. The demand for the tourism sector is quite high. The tourism sector is more rapidly affected by events such as political problems, epidemic diseases, economic crises than other sectors. In this context, the Covid-19 virus, which appeared in December 2019 and has continued to spread globally since that date, appears to us as an event that has a negative impact on human health as well as the tourism sector. The aim of this study is to conceptually reveal the economic effects of the Covid-19 epidemic on the tourism sector. The study focused primarily on the impact of previous crises on tourism and economic data assessed the potential effects of the Covid 19 virus on tourism. In the framework of the study, the concept of controlled and healthy tourism is shown. According to the study, it seems inevitable that the demand shocks that the epidemic will lead to employment and income losses in the tourism sector.
The tourism sector, which is becoming more and more important as an economic phenomenon today, is an important tool in generating income, business and tax revenues and alleviating the balance of payments problem. The demand elasticity of the tourism sector is quite high. Tourism sector is affected by events such as political problems, economic crises and epidemics faster than other sectors. In this context, the Covid-19 virus, which emerged in December 2019 and has been spreading globally since then, is an event that negatively affects the tourism sector as well as human health. The aim of this study is to conceptually demonstrate the economic effects of Covid-19 outbreak on the tourism sector. In the study, initially, the effects of previous crises on tourism will be examined and then the economic effects of Covid-19 virus on tourism will be evaluated using economic data. Also included within the scope of the study, the concept of controlled and healthy tourism is introduced. This study will show that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic it will be inevitable that lack of demand caused by the outbreak will lead to unemployment and income losses in the tourism sector.
