The crusaders who invaded the Jerusalem in 1099 had established a Latin Patriarchate there. The Latin Patriarchate had made its presence more distinctive in Jerusalem and also implemented great pressure on the Eastern Christians. The most affected among these groups was Orthodox Greeks. After the conquest of Jerusalem by Salahaddin Ayyubi in 1187, the Latin Patriarchate had left Jerusalem and had continued to live in Akka. When Crusaders lost Akka in 1291, The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem had disappeared. From 14th century to middle of 19th century, the Franciscan Friars had under token the representation of the Latin community of Jerusalem. During Abdülmecit’s reign , as a result of good relations with the Papacy, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem had been re-established in 1848. The establishment of Israel in 1948 and ArabIsraeli wars had brought the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to a chaotic situation. Today, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem has presented merely a prestigious position rather than patriarchal body
