In this paper, I will attempt to examine the shape of Self-concsiousness that is the turning point in the Phenomenology of Spirit and the place in which the well-known master-slave problem and recognition are treated. The phenomenology of Spirit is the spirit’s journey to reach the knowledge of itself as spirit. The turning point of the approach to the knowledge of the spirit itself as spirit is Self-consciousness. Consciousness reflects back to itself from the priority of the external object in Self-consciousness and makes itself object to itself. Thus the effort of selfconcsious subject is toward the completing its self-certainty with truth. The desire to acquire its truth brings forth the act of recognition. The act of recognition declares us that spirit is immanent in process as in-self or concept even though it is not yet foritself. We will see that how the natural consciousness makes an effort to unite self-certainty with truth in the moment of self-consciousness in which spirit shows itself as a concept. At the end of the experience of this form of consciousness, it is completely come up that the subjectivity which is positioned as superior to objectivity, instead of positioned as equal to objectivity, is abstract. And by showing us the inadequacy of the shape of Self-consciousness, this fact will demonstrate the necessity of passing the shape of Reason which is the next moment of the relationship of subjectivity with objectivity.
