Obesity is a major public health problem and the frequency of occurrence is increasing worldwide. In epidemiological research, the determination of body fat with bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) is a practical application. Measurement of the thickness of the skin is also a simple and easy tool that can be used in the assessment of the body composition. The aim of this study is to determine the body fat in women aged 20-49 using the skin thickness (triseps, biseps, supkapular and suprailiak) and the BIA measurement and to determine the correlation between the two methods. Individuals and Methods: A total of 619 women with normal body weight (BMI: 18.5-24.9 kg/m2, n=170, 27.4 percent), slight obesity (BMI: 25.0-29.9 kg/m2, n=179, 28.9 percent) and obesity (BMI: ≥30 kg/m2, n=270, 43.6 percent) were involved in the study. In the study, triseps, biseps, supkapular and suprailiak skin curved thicknesses were measured. The body fat percentage is calculated using the four skin curve thickness. All solutions have been analyzed using the SPSS 15.0 program. The difference for p<0.05 has been statistically considered significant. Results: The body fat percentage in obese women was 42.0 ± 2.9%, in light obese women 36.5 ± 3.2 and in normal body weight women 30.1 ± 3.7. The body fat percentage of obese, lightweight and normal body weight women, using the BIA method, was determined at 41.2 ± 4.2%, respectively 33.5 ± 3.6, 26.4 ± 4.4%. The "In-class Safety Score" was used to study the consistency of the results of the fat percentages calculated by two different methods. The study found a strong, positive linear correlation between the skin thickness measurement and the percentage of fat obtained from the BIA measurement (r=0.929, p<0.001). The result: in the detection of body fat, BIA and the measurement of the thickness of skin curvation are useful methods and can be used to replace each other.
