Abstract:

Abstract Internal migration is in Cuba a demographic variable that contributes to the gain of some territories and the loss of population of others. These differences are generated to a large extent by the attraction capacity of some with greater opportunities as a result of the development of economic sectors and the depletion of other less attractive ones. Based on the information collected in the Population and Housing Censuses of Cuba at the moments 2002 and 2012, the study focuses on identifying the intensity and redistributive effect of internal migration among the minor administrative-political divisions of the province of Holguín and Ciego de Ávila, in a matrix that is closed to internal movements in each of these two provinces. To do this, census questions that capture the migration of all life and recent migration of five years are used. The studied indicators stand out for the absolute or lifelong migration, less mobility between the municipalities of Holguín and Ciego de Ávila. In the case of recent migration, the municipalities of Holguín, Moa and Ciego de Ávila, Morón are the largest recipients and those that most redistribute their internal population in their migratory exchange, both in the census round of 2002 and in 2012.
