Football is a competitive sport, being the sport with the greatest number of musculoskeletal injuries. The purpose of this study was analyzing the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in professional soccer athletes in the city of Teresina-PI. This is a transversal, descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 39 athletes from the two largest professional soccer clubs in Teresina-PI, selected in a non-probabilistic manner, aged between 18 and 40 years. For the data collection, a questionnaire was used, which addresses questions about soccer professional practice, training, musculoskeletal injuries, and procedures adopted after injury. The data were analyzed by means of a descriptive statistic, using mean and standard deviation. The t-test and the chi-square test were performed. The significance level adopted was 5% for all analyzes and the software used was STATA 12.0. This work was submitted and approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Piauí. The prevalence of injury was 89.74%, with ankle sprain being the most frequent injury (22.41%). The average time of removal of the players from the injuries was between 2 and 4 weeks. There was no statistically significant association between weight and height with the prevalence of injury, respectively (p = 0.19) and (p = 0.61). The most affected tactical position was the flywheel position. The prevalence of injury was high in the athletes surveyed, being the ankle sprain to the injury that most affected the football players of the city of Teresina-PI.
