Abstract:

Aiming to describe the basic structure of the experiences of teachers who had different approaches to information and communication technologies in Life Sciences and reach the essence of these experiences, the study employed the phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs. Putting the researcher’s observations first, the deviant case sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, while selecting the participants for the study. The study was conducted with six teachers. While determining the teachers, their activities on their social platforms were examined. Three of the teachers were selected because their posts were educational and followed by other individuals, and the other three teachers were selected because they did not use any social platforms or post for educational purposes even if they used it. The interviews were carried out using Zoom in accordance with the social distancing rules imposed during the pandemic. In this study, in which individual interviews were conducted, a semi-structured interview form was used in order to reach the essence of teacher experiences. Content analysis technique was employed in the analysis of the study data. As a result, teachers had to use ICT during the pandemic process. This compulsory use did not have a positive effect on the approaches of teachers who did not prefer to use ICT in their classrooms. On the contrary, it reinforced their negative approach towards the use of ICT. Teachers who had a positive approach to ICT stated that they will reflect positive outcomes of this process to their future teaching.
